Guess the Route 2014 - 03/10/14 09:05 PM

Old thread hit max, perhaps ...

Ok. Logged in, the forum index shows right now that Seth posted last yesterday in the old thread, but when I click on the thread, the last post is Doug's.

I don't see the post that I posted in that thread yesterday.

I am viewing in flat mode, viewer on side.

Look at shout box on the left for info. Set your "posts per page" to 99. It appears there is a bug using the default of 10 that 99 might delay?

Does that bring the posts back?

What if the "Guess the Route" problem were solved by starting a new thread (once) rather than by each individual (ha, all 6!) discovering the workaround "in the shout box on the left"?

Just throwing it out there.....

Will there be Guess the Route 2015, Guess the Route 2016, etc. threads from now on to preclude saturation?

Re: Guess the Route 2014 - 03/16/14 02:23 PM

Yearly renewals won't come close to being needed. I started the original thread eight years ago, during a time when the site was, I suspect, considerably more active. After eight years and over two million posts, it does appear to have maxed out. A new one ain't gonna fill up in a year.

Re: Guess the Route 2014 - 03/16/14 02:51 PM

I'm not sure about that RG. With all the new gym climbers planning on hitting the crag this season, there will certainly be plenty of new blood interested in posting their newly acquired photos and route identifcation expertise.

Maybe Curmudgeon will have some aditional competition along this thread.

Ooops, maybe "new blood" was the wrong term for new climbers to the crag eh?

Rick, the gyms have been around for quite a while, and there hasn't been even a ripple in the traffic here, has there? They're probably all over at MP trying to get enough beta to overcome their fear of non-taped holds.

Another example of how the cliffs are being held hostage by outdated ethics.

Re: Guess the Route 2014 - 03/16/14 11:35 PM

My post was more tongue in cheek. But, groups of gym climbers have been known to organize at retail shops throughout the metro area. Or, after a season on the plywood, hook up with our 80+ rock climbing guides for a day out.

The issue of gym climbers transitioning to the real deal was enough I guess for the GCC and the Access Fund to begin their intro to rock program this past season.

2.

To put this in perspective, from standing on the plate, I can only reach a few inches over the hang.

What's wrong, cat got your tongue? You know there is a lot more rock around that what you can find a few minutes from your car, but you have to walk a few hours. (hoping to provoke some kind of life here on gunks.com) Maybe it's too cold outside.

The name of the 1st cliff I am naming THE TRAVERSES.
The name of the 2nd cliff I am naming DYKE WALLS.

Ironically, since no one will ever guess, therefore no one will ever go there, therefore the names will disappear. Dyke Walls is up hill from The Traverses. You will know you are at the first if you find a few happy traverses at the end of the wall, and you will know you are at the second if you see a lot of water coming out of the cracks.

Donald I suck at guessing routes unless I've done them a few times. I do appreciate the photos.

Well ... I will let you win correct if you can find a name for a climb that you think looks similar.

Is the last one Suzy A?

Re: Guess the Route 2014 - 05/01/14 12:01 AM

Donald it's Shitface - Seth guessed it and curmudgeon confirmed before I could.

Re: Guess the Route 2014 - 07/04/14 01:57 AM

Sure, go up the prow, whats the problem?
Posted by: tradjunkie

Re: Guess the Route 2014 - 07/04/14 01:51 PM

IIRC, the top shelf of the prow is very sharp, one of the few places in the Gunks I\'d be careful of not cutting the rope!

House of the Little Brown Ferret 5.10 R

A Classic! Climb 2 bottom corners to roof, traverse left to prow, climb the prow and over the roof to top, traverse onto the face and ... not sure.
