CFRAC photo in Rock & Ice - 01/14/12 04:39 PM
Congrats cfrac on your photo in the new issue of Rock & Ice! The photo is on page 66 in a feature on new mixed routes in the Catskills. Kind of funny that both Rock & Ice and Climbing have new articles on Catskill ice climbing... But there is no ice!

I would be willing to bet big money there is climbable ice in the catskills right now.

Thanks Seth, it's fun to see some local stuff in the big magazines! The timing is weird for sure, but I think both magazines were probably thinking they had the story, and then the irony of the crappiest ice season ever to boot makes it kind of comical.

Good to see the positive press Chris. Thirty years ago, Climbing Mag wasn't interested in new route info, photos or a story. Of course there wasn't as much of a story 30 years ago.

Who wrote the article? I'll have to go peruse the mag at Rock & Snow tomorrow.

Ryan Stefiuk wrote the Rock&Ice piece focusing on the Catskill's mixed climbing offerings.

Dave since I don't get either mag, any chance you can scan (or high res photo) the articles for me?

Those photos are reeeally good, Cfrac. You did a great job on a medium where most climbing photographers are not interested, perhaps due to the conditions, and got some of the best angles I've seen for ice/mixed. I appreciated that you had a different model for each photo. The article was also well written.

there was a route photo that was called a new route going at M6 WI4R. Where exactly is it. It looks like a route I had done when I had gone back to visit our east coast facility about 6 yrs ago, except what I had done was without the drips on the right and left. When I did it there was evidence of someone having done it before me also.

For the Rock and Ice article, Cfrac was in a photo. Chris Beauchamp took the photos. But, I do agree Cfrac does take some good shots as well.

Yeah what Rick said is right. Chris Beauchamp is an amazing photographer. It's worth seeing his other photos on his site:
