They will almost certainly replace Metolius TCU's. I had an extended discussion on them with Rich Gottlieb out at the cliff one day, and they really seem better in almost every respect.
They are certainly way narrower than aliens.

Not on my rack they won't. Especially not at $70 each.

Rich may sell a lot of them based on folks respect for his opinion. But buyers won't be Metolius owners. They won't buy anything new except ropes and ice tools.

I respect Rich's opinion, and I haven't seen these things yet, but it worries me that all the springy things that regulate the cams are in a portion of the device that will be loaded over an edge in horizontal placements.
I'm not even remotely as enamored of Aliens as some folks are, but they do have the advantage that neither springs nor the cables are typically exposed to loading in such placements.

OF Course I will purchase these. ..
But, my first visual impression is they look a bit bulky and stiff.
But boy am I glad they're ribbed...

Thumb rest? My forearms pump, occasionally my fingers ask for a break.
What am I doing wrong? Never felt like my thumbs needed a rest. Are there any thumb cracks at the Gunks?

I had the pleasure of climbing with Rich a few weeks ago, and he had prototypes with him that he used. They're pretty cool. The springs are encased in plastic. I think I actually recall Rich saying he suggested a minor modification, which BD actually made.
Incidentally, he said the grey Aliens have been hard for him to come by lately, apparently because one of the big outfitters (EMS, maybe?) is carrying them.
