A Christmas Story trivia - 12/29/10 02:36 PM

Christmas is over, and I watched A Christmas Story about ten times as usual. I've been toying with the idea of making a short trivia book about the movie. Here is the first question to start it off. It's kind of easy.

Which tire goes flat on the ride home from getting a Christmas tree?

Right front. Now maybe you'll answer our question in the GCC forum?

AG gets it right. Unfortauntely there is no prize!

Next question:

How many times is the sentence "You'll shoot your eye out" uttered by someone in the movie, and how many different characters say it?

Unfor"taunt"ely

Please know RR that I'm not poking fun at the spelling...just the glaring Freudian slip! grin

5? Mom, Teacher Miss Shields, and Santa

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 12/30/10 03:19 AM

Nice one AOR, I didn't notice that.

Smiley, When Mom asks what he wants and he blurts it out she says it once and that narrator repeats it so that is 2

In the classroom when he reads his grade of C+ he says it for #3, then Miss Shields and his Mom taunt him and say it twice for 4 and 5.

Santa doesn't count, he adds the word kid at the end of the sentence.

So you got the number right, but no Santa.

Next question.........

What soap does Ralphie go blind from?

Palmolive.....So that question still awaits you in the GCC forum ReindeerRob. Thanks, MPNA

Rob,

Perhaps you feel comfortable answering this question......What was Ralphies preferred soap to eat? Thanks, MPNA

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 12/30/10 04:22 PM

It seems that there is more than one person in this thread who, like me, was an avid Shepherd listener in his youth. Can anyone state what brief role the author of this film played in that work?

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 12/30/10 04:46 PM

He was the voice of Ralphie as an adult. Thanks, MPNA

He was the voice of Ralphie as an adult.

Ok, but where in the film did he make an appearance?

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 12/30/10 10:15 PM

ooh ooh I think I know this! Wasn't he one of the neighbos who came out to oogle over the lamp?

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 12/30/10 10:28 PM

He had a few words to say in his appearance. Where?

Other than Ralphie, Flick, and Schwortz, name two children in the class.

Here's one.
What's the name of the restaurant where they have Christmas Dinner?

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 01/01/11 04:41 PM

Other than Ralphie, Flick, and Schwortz, name two children in the class.

Only Esther Jane Albery and Helen Weathers come to mind.

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 01/01/11 09:58 PM

Obviously you have read the book, because Helen and Esther janes last names are never mentioned. The restaurant....that's a good one! I'll have to cheat and watch that section again.

Was I right about Jean Shepards appearance and lines in the movie?

You're right about Shep's being the voiceover narrator. I don't recall seeing him as a lamp ogler. What you missed is the occasion where he was seen and heard at the same time as an ordinary bit part player. Can you recall that? A hint: he's fat.

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 01/03/11 03:27 AM

I'm pretty sure he was in both scenes, the 2nd of which I won't say since I read it somewhere.

The soap is Lifebuoy, not Pamolive. After hearing it was "soap poisoning", his dad says "I told you not to use the lifebuoy". He says nice things about Palmolive (it's not his favorite though).

Here's another.
What topic is the teacher about to discuss when interrupted by the fake teeth incident?

Bonus: name three other things in the confiscated items drawer.

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 01/04/11 12:16 AM

Silas Marner? Not that I know who he is, but some literary reference I'm sure.

I know there are chattering teeth in the drawer. something to do with a rat maybe?

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 01/04/11 05:04 AM

Yup, she writes "Silas" on the board, I think it's safe to assume it's the novel.

Yup, there's the chattering teeth, rubber mouse, a few other goodies.

Re: A Christmas Story trivia - 01/04/11 11:43 AM

Note that the teacher, Miss Shields, is out of Shep's past, as the letter below will show.

Scaring someone via Gunks.com is a first for me. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Names of fellow pupils are real too, as this excerpt from Shep's 1937 high school yearbook will attest. And from the 1939 yearbook:

Esther Jane Albery

Yes there is: the brass figlighee with bronze oak leaf palm.
